Birmingham Airport is continuing to invest significantly in the overall customer experience.
Over the course of 2026, visitors will start to see new restaurants, lounges, and upgraded facilities coming through as part of its wider transformation programme – building on more than £300 million already committed to improving the airport.
That investment is already being matched by strong demand. Birmingham Airport has just recorded its busiest Easter period on record, with over 750,000 passengers travelling through the airport across the two-week break - an increase of more than 10 per cent year-on-year.
Birmingham Airport is the UK’s seventh largest airport, with 35 airlines and over 140 direct destinations.
Whether travelling to major business centres or popular leisure destinations, as the Midlands’ gateway to the world, Birmingham Airport offers extensive global access.
The airport is one of the best-connected in the UK, with strong road and public transport links, including direct access to the national railway network.
BHX remains on track to achieve its busiest year ever, with a record 14 million passengers forecast to travel through the airport during 2025/26. Supporting this growth, Birmingham Airport continues to invest heavily in its future, with over £300 million committed through to 2029 to support continued expansion and to future-proof the airport for both passengers and airline partners.
In addition, the airport has announced to senior appointments.
Matt Hazelwood has joined Birmingham Airport as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), bringing significant experience across aviation commercial strategy, revenue development, and stakeholder engagement. In this role, Matt will lead the airport’s commercial function.
Tobias Morter has joined Birmingham Airport as Business & Travel Trade Executive and will act as the primary contact for airline sales teams and travel trade partners, including consolidators, consortiums, online travel agents, travel management companies, tour operators, and corporate clients.
More broadly, the airport continues to see steady progress across several areas:
- Business growth and partnerships: Continued strengthening of airline relationships and route development activity, supporting both inbound and outbound connectivity.
- New services and customer experience: A number of service-led improvements have been introduced, with further initiatives in the pipeline aimed at enhancing overall passenger satisfaction.
- Events and stakeholder engagement: BHX remains actively engaged across the regional business and tourism landscape, contributing to wider economic development.
