Neville Staple – From The Specials plays a hometown show at Square One Coventry Sat 02/12 with support from AC30’s and Lobster.
Neville Staple, the Legendary multi-award-winning Front Man From The Specials, Fun Boy Three and Special Beat, also known as The Original Rude Boy, celebrates over 40 years of his super music career, and of the beginning of the 2-Tone movement. He continues to carry the flag for The Specials and Fun Boy Three, with honour and pride, performing hits and classics from his career.
Credited with changing the face of popular music not only once but twice, Neville’s international career is well documented and started out from the early days with Ray King, Pete Waterman (OBE), The Coventry Automatics and his Jah Baddis Sound System, before taking to the stage as a frontman of The Specials. He has performed, written or produced highly acclaimed albums and singles, and his musical awards include MOJO, NME, several Gold, Silver & Platinum Discs and a lifetime achievement award from a school in his home City of Coventry (birthplace of the 2-Tone Movement). He is celebrated as a living legend. Neville continues to write and produce new material, with his recent album being the highly celebrated ‘From The Specials & Beyond’. Neville was chosen to be one of the UK’s ‘National Treasures’ for Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant list, along with his wife Sugary Staple.
Neville states, “We have lost a lot of my music buddies in recent times, so I will continue to perform in honour of them all. I love to see the massive reactions to the hit songs like Ghost Town, Too Much Too Young and Gangsters, and fans continue to write to me about my rugged, energetic and fun stage presence from back in the day. The way we bring ska to the mainstream is by mixing Jamaican music with the English punky style. I love performing live and always include my Specials hits, along with other classics and career favourites. Every show is like a massive party, where fans of all ages love to dance, stomp or sing – along!”
Neville’s 2-Tone legacy is huge. The movement helped to transcend and defuse racial tensions in Thatcher-era Britain and still resonates in today’s Brexit uncertainties. Neville’s collaborations and shows have included Amy Winehouse, Rancid, Save Ferris, No Doubt, Planet Smashers, Desmond Dekker, The Undertones, The Clash, UB40, The Jam, Sting, Madness, Midge Ure, Kim Appleby, Leee John, Toyah, Hazel O’Connor, Ferry Aid Collective, Bob Marley’s Estate, Bananarama, Dreadzone, Derrick Morgan, Clint Eastwood, Roy & Yvonne, Stranger Cole and Dub Pistols.
Support band The AC30’s are based in the Midlands and concentrate on original Jamaican Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae, with a dash on 2-Tone. They have been backing band for chart topper Susan Cadogan, Carroll Thompson, Troy Ellis (Son of Alton Ellis), the U.K touring band of Stranger Cole and Alpheus, Derrick Morgan, Dave Barker and Roy & Yvonne. In the concert’s penultimate work Tchaikovsky transports the evening to the magical halls of snowy Tsarist Russia with a regal waltz from his ballet Sleeping Beauty. The evening reaches its climax with the famous Blue Danube Waltz, not only proving the crowning jewel of a fabulous night’s worth of music, but the coronation of Johann Strauss II as the master of the Viennese waltz.

Pioneers of folk-rock, Steeleye Span changed the face of the genre forever, taking it out of small clubs and into the world of gold discs and international tours. Five decades on and the band continue to celebrate their famous past alongside their recent history. That is true of their latest release, the Green Man Collection – bringing together tracks from their recent albums with new versions of three Steeleye classics (including a reworking of ‘Hard Times’ featuring Status Quo’s Francis Rossi and a cover of Elvis Costello’s ‘Shipbuilding’. The title track “The Green Man” is of special interest to Steeleye fans, a song by Bob Johnson – a member of the band throughout the seventies and responsible for many of their classic ballads from the era. Previously lost for 40 years, the song addressed the issue of climate change long before it became such a widespread topic.

Equally at home on the classical stage, or starring in musical theatre productions in London West End, his credits include lead roles in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.
As a singer, Aled is in demand globally and has performed in the world’s most iconic venues, from London’s Royal Albert Hall to the Sydney Opera House. A favourite with the Royal Family, he even gave a private performance to King Charles III in Kensington Palace.

They are the most beloved and recognisable big and small screen creations of all time – let alone just in the world of the Fantasy genre. Now the music of Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit will be celebrated in a special orchestral concert tour at Warwick Arts Centre. The show, presented by Senbla by arrangement with Silva Screen Live, will be a celebration of the music from the most memorable moments from across the world’s of Middle Earth and the Seven Kingdoms. in 2017 Sci-Fi Bulletin called it “… a three-in-one précis of some great music”.
The stunning musical accompaniments will be performed live by a symphony orchestra and choir. Creating an immersive live concert experience that is every bit as thrilling as the twists and turns in the world’s respective histories.
Game of Thrones is a TV show like no other – the hit HBO series captured the hearts and minds of millions the world over, and its finale was perhaps the most talked about in television history.
Composer Ramin Djawadi began creating the music for the show in 2011, with most of the eerie, magnificent score back then being penned for a small string ensemble.
With the success of the next six seasons of the show, the music budget became bigger, allowing Djawadi to create even more emphatic pieces for large orchestras.
The success of HBO’s Game of Thrones is almost unfathomable. It drew in record numbers of viewers all across the world, and was awarded thirty-eight Emmy Awards.
One of the most successful film series of all time, The Lord of The Rings, as well as its prequel series The Hobbit, will also have their most memorable pieces performed live in the concert.
The original trilogy of The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King, directed by Peter Jackson, are among the highest grossing film series of all time. As well as being critically acclaimed – winning a combined 17 out of the 30 Academy Awards they were nominated for.
Composed by Howard Shore, the soundtrack was music of unparalleled power and invention, and demanding of huge resources.
The soundtrack scored around 95% of the films’ length – eventually having over 12 hours of music released over various formats.
The success of the The Lord of the Rings’ soundtrack led Shore to also score Peter Jackson’s follow-up prequels to Lord of the Rings; The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug, and The Battle of the Five Armies.

California-born but now based in Manchester, UK, Jesca Hoop is what you’d call a musician’s musician. Discovered by Tom Waits, and brought on tour by Peter Gabriel to sing in his band, it was a phone call from Elbow’s Guy Garvey that saw her move to the UK. Her most recent album “Stonechild”, produced by John Parish (PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding, This is the Kit), received huge acclaim from fans and critics alike, and it’s easy to see why: her beautiful songs, rooted in the folk tradition are intricately detailed, acoustic-led pieces that teem with ideas.

The Making Of The Debut Album: An Intimate Evening of music and conversation with singer James Skelly and keyboardist Nick Power. The Coral are celebrating the 21st anniversary of their eponymous debut album.
The record was described by NME as being the funniest and most refreshing British debut in years.
In this intimate evening, singer-songwriter James Skelly will be joined by keyboardist Nick Power for an evening of conversation, audience questions and acoustic songs.
The Coral’s debut remains a totemic release, sonically unique, wilfully left-field and thrillingly eclectic.
The Coral combined psychedelia with dub, disco groove with pop and ragtime with Egyptian reggae on a remarkable debut that has proved to be timeless.
Twenty-one years on, that record still sounds as fresh and remarkable as it did when it was released on 29th July 2002.
The most recognised kumi-daiko drumming troupe in the world exploring the limitless possibilities of the traditional taiko, KODO are forging new directions for a vibrant living art-form.Since the group’s debut at the Berlin Festival in 1981, KODO has given over 6,500 performances on all five continents.
In Japanese, the word ‘Kodo’ holds a double meaning. It can be translated as ‘heartbeat,’ the primal source of all rhythm.
However, KODO’s group’s name is written with different characters, which mean ‘drum’ and ‘child’, reflecting KODO’s desire to play the drums with the simple heart of a child.
They blend simple forms of taiko expression that celebrate the unique sound, resonance, and physicality synonymous with Kodo – forever children of the drum at heart.
Following a sold-out tour across the UK earlier this year, Fisherman’s Friends have announced a brand-new major headline tour for 2024.Fisherman’s Friends have nine albums to their name, two feature films, a stage musical, a book, a TV documentary, they’ve played for royalty and to tens of thousands of fans in sell-out tours year in year out… No, it’s not The Beatles, Take That or One Direction – it’s The Fisherman’s Friends!
A decade ago, The Fisherman’s Friends signed a million-pound record deal that saw their album Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friends go Gold as they became the first ever traditional folk act to land a UK top ten album.
And thanks to the small film with a big heart that shares their name, the story of the original Cornish ‘buoy band’ is known around the world – bound by shared experience, for more than 30 years they have gathered on the Platt on the harbour in their native Port Isaac to sing the songs of the sea, songs that in some cases have been handed down for hundreds of years, songs that connect them to generations of Cornish fishermen that have come before them.
The film’s sequel Fisherman’s Friends 2 was released last year. The story follows the group from the highs of starring on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, through the lows of struggling to make a follow-up album. Fisherman’s Friends: The Musical broke all box office records selling over 250,000 tickets in the UK and Canada.
The Fisherman’s Friends are lobster fisherman Jeremy Brown, writer and shopkeeper Jon Cleave, smallholder and engineer John ‘Lefty’ Lethbridge, builder John McDonnell, lobster fisherman Jason Nicholas, filmmaker Toby Lobb and potter Bill Hawkins.
