Have fun on a budget in Coventry

Summer is a fantastic time to explore Coventry’s beautiful parks, historical sites, and vibrant cultural scene. But with so many options, deciding where to go and what to do can be challenging, especially if you’re on a budget. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of free and budget-friendly things to do in Coventry this summer.

Get some fresh air

First up, we have the stunning War Memorial Park, which offers plenty of green spaces, flower beds, and a sensory garden. You can enjoy a picnic, play sports, or take a stroll around the park. If you’re feeling adventurous, why not try the outdoor gym equipment or the mini golf course?

If you’re looking for a unique cultural experience, Coventry’s Canal Basin is a hidden gem that offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. You can take a leisurely walk along the canal, admire the colourful narrowboats, or enjoy a drink at one of the waterside cafes. And if you’re feeling adventurous, you can even hire a canoe or paddleboard and explore the canal from a different perspective.

One of the most popular attractions in Coventry is Coombe Abbey Park. This beautiful parkland is home to stunning gardens, lakes, and woodland, making it the perfect place to enjoy a picnic, play sports, or take a leisurely stroll. The park also offers plenty of activities for children, including a play area and a bird hide. And for those feeling adventurous, there’s also a treetop adventure course and an orienteering course to try.

Discover the past, embrace the present

If you’re interested in history, Coventry Cathedral is a must-see. The medieval cathedral was destroyed during World War II and rebuilt in the 1960s as a modernist masterpiece. You can take a guided tour or explore the cathedral at your own pace. And if you’re lucky, you might catch a live performance or exhibition in the cathedral’s stunning nave.

The Outdoor Guide Walking Trails are free, and a fantastic way to explore the city and learn about its rich history and culture. Follow the online guides and let the tour take you on a journey through Coventry’s past and present, highlighting important landmarks and hidden gems along the way. You can choose from various tours, including the Historic Coventry walk, the Coventry Canal Walk, and the George Eliot walk.
