The King’s Coronation is a momentous occasion that brings about great excitement and celebration, and Coventry is buzzing with anticipation as people from all over gather to witness this historic event. Let’s enjoy this special day together!

COVENTRY CITY CORONATION DAY

A huge screen will be installed in Broadgate to show the historic occasion of the Coronation of King Charles III. Come and join the celebrations. There will be picnic benches and deckchairs for your use, street entertainers adding to the atmosphere, Union jack flag waving and red, white and blue city dressing which will all create a moment of civic pride for the city.

Bring family, friends and a picnic or use one of the many city centre shops and restaurants to celebrate the coronation.

THE BIG PICNIC

The celebrations don’t stop there. Bring your friends, family and picnics to the city centre for the city street party in Broadgate on Sunday 07 May. A bandstand will be in place with music from brass bands including the Festival Band and the Incredible Bombay Baja Brass Band. This free family get-together for the city will encourage proud Coventrians and visitors alike to enjoy being together and enjoy the regal-themed street entertainers. There will be children’s “have a go” crafty activities as well as environmental activities that reflect the new King’s personal interests.

Head to West Orchards for the King’s Coronation Craft Market. Lots of great makers, bakers, and crafters will be joining us over the weekend.

The Quicken Tree at The Heart of England Conference and Events Centre has a packed programme of food, fun and family activities throughout the Coronation Weekend.

Coventry Cathedral Royal Crafts – Saturday 06 May, Coventry Cathedral
Explore the Cathedral like a King or Queen in your very own crown to celebrate the Coronation weekend! Find our free decoration stations dotted around to add colour and sparkles, the more you explore the jazzier and more fabulous you can make your crown.

Coronation at Charterhouse – Saturday 06 May, Charterhouse
Charterhouse has stood through over 600 years of kings and queens, with a few of them even visiting themselves. On Sat 6 May, watch the event via live screening, get stuck into some brand new themed activities for all ages and help us commemorate monarch number 30 in Charterhouse’s history.

Fun Fair – Saturday 06 – Monday 08 May, War Memorial Park
Held in the War Memorial Park on Coronation weekend, there will be a range of fun fairs rides, games, inflatables, food and drink plus character meet and greets, community stalls, face painting, hair braiding and much more!

Watch The King’s Coronation – Saturday 06 May, Earlsdon
Come and watch this historic occasion live at Earlsdon Carnegie Community Library. Free tea and cake will be provided as part of the Warm Welcome campaign. The library will be open for book browsing and borrowing as usual until 1pm.

Garden Party – Sunday 07 May, Coombe Abbey Country Park
This free event (car parking charges still apply) takes place around the formal gardens and brings together music, team games, Victorian ribbon games, street food, stalls and more. Come and join them for this Coronation garden party inspired by photos found from Lady Craven’s time at Coombe.

Coronation Big Lunch Party – Sunday 07 May, Queens Road
Hosted by Eden Project Communities, the Big Lunch is a fantastic opportunity to meet new friends, tuck into delicious food and celebrate the Coronation! We’re particularly excited as we’ll be joining thousands of communities across the UK in this official celebration! 

Ryton Pools Coronation Events – Sunday 07 – Monday 08 May, Ryton Pools
The Big Lunch, when the nation is being encouraged to get together with their families, neighbours and friends to share friendship, food and fun, Ryton Pools Country Park will be offering a selection of activities to enjoy including a brass band and face painting, in addition to the onsite café being open and serving a BBQ! On Monday 8th May, as part of the Big Help Out, visitors can join a ‘BioBlitz’, and work together to find and identify as many species as possible.
