National Lottery Open Week celebrated in Coventry with launch of Dippy the Dinosaur Trail

In celebration of National Lottery Open Week, a Dippy the Dinosaur Trail is set to take place around Coventry city centre.

Five venues that benefit from National Lottery funding will be a part of the trail; The Wave, Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, Coventry Cathedral, St Mary’s Guildhall, and Coventry Transport Museum.

Dippy the Diplodocus recently opened as an exhibit at the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum and is on loan from the Natural History Museum for three years.

During the weekends of 18-19 March and 25-26 March, visitors can explore the city centre while searching for 10 mini Dippys hidden in the participating venues. Each venue is also offering special offers including discounted admission fees, that can be found on the Dippy maps.

The Dippy maps can be picked up at any of the participating venues during the event. Visitors can follow the map to explore Coventry and learn more about the city’s rich history and culture.

The trail is free to enjoy, but participants must provide proof of purchase of a National Lottery ticket.

Cllr David Welsh, Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, said: “We are thrilled to celebrate National Lottery Open Week by launching the Dippy Trail around Coventry city centre.

“We hope this event will encourage people to explore Coventry’s vibrant culture and learn more about the incredible venues that benefit from National Lottery funding, along with enjoying the Dippy theme. It’s free to enjoy this trail and to visit Dippy the dino itself, so residents and visitors really can make a fun-packed day out of this.”

CV Life Operations Manager – Kath Healion, said: “The Dippy Trail looks like fantastic fun for all ages, and it really is a great way to welcome this world class exhibition to our city.

“The trail includes some truly iconic Coventry buildings so it’s superb to have three CV Life venues included.

“We know Dippy is going to be so popular for the next three years so it’s great that visitors and residents can enjoy the exhibition in different ways such as this.”

Two dinosaurs will be hidden in each participating venue.

The campaign aims to raise awareness about the vital role National Lottery funding plays in supporting arts, heritage, and culture in the UK.
