Japanese stab binding is a decorative technique where individual sheets of paper are stitched together to create a book.
In the western tradition of bookbinding the binding is generally hidden, but in the Eastern Asian tradition stab binding allows the stitch to be on the outside and part of the decoration. Lisa will demonstrate three different stab binding techniques from basic to the more complicated, and you will be able to explore and choose which technique will be suitable for you and your book. You will be shown a range of decorative papers that can be used as a front cover, or you could use your own marbled paper if you attended Lisa’s previous workshop on paper marbling.
Plain white paper for the pages of the book will be supplied, but if you’d like to bring any photos, poems, drawings, or favourite recipes for example, please do and we’ll see if they can be incorporated into your book.
The size of the final book will be approx. 15cm high and 22cm wide.
